Arik Levy
Arik Levy’s life’s work is a testament to that instinctive force, as he states creation is an uncontrolled muscle. Born in 1963 in Israel and now based in Saint Paul de Vence and Paris, Levy is an internationally acclaimed artist whose practice spans sculpture, paitning, photography, video and installations.
While best known for his iconic Rock sculptures, his artistic reach goes far beyond form, rooted instead in emotion, intuition, and transformation. A self-described „feeling artist,“ his creative path began with painting, airbrushing surfboards and running a graphic design studio, before moving to Europe to study at Art Center Europe in Switzerland, graduating with distinction. Deeply dyslexic, art became his true language, a way to translate the world’s signs and symbols into visual and emotional experiences.
After formative time in Japan, immersed in minimalist philosophy and craftsmanship, the artist returned to Europe and brought his vision into contemporary dance, opera, and public art. Today, his works are exhibited and installed around the globe. Whether in the intimacy of a gallery or the openness of a city square, his sculptures and installations reflect his belief that “the world is about people, not objects.” He invites us to reimagine space, perception, and presence, crafting environments that are as much about feeling as they are about form.
Levy has the priviledge of living with his sculpture in his sculpture park. This unique experience has not only deepened his relationship with his work but also evolved it. In the natural surroundings of his home, his pieces seem to create an entirely new environment, influenced by the abundance of mineral geology in the area, which led him to explore many stone sculptures last year.
Arik Levy’s art often explores the totemic, with sculptures that symbolize the connection between earth and sky. For him, the totem is not just an object, but a spiritual bridge, linking the present to the future. His works invite reflection on our relationship to nature, spirituality, and the world around us.
When asked about his preferred materials, the artist expresses that his true favorite materials are human emotion and intelligence. He considers his work a tool for psychotherapy, both for his self and for others, recognizing that his art serves as a medium for emotional exploration and connection.
